My port side bridle wire has pulled through the bow taking a chunk of fibre glass away. I can get it re-glassed but it seems to me it'll be less than perfect. I've seen another guys boat that has a machined stainless steel bar in a V shape that fits under the gunwale. Someone else suggested bolting a machined stainless steel plate from the tip of the bow to about 10 inches to spread the load. Any advice from you repair gurus woukd be most welcome.

Thanks
Conor

Hi from Saudi Arabia,

I had a similar thing happen....I got some Devcon Aluminium 2 part putty and filled in uner the hull lip for 2-3 inces back from the bow.

Before it cured I drilled a hole for the bow tang thru the original hole area and curing putty.

Then I bolted it all together with a 3/16 Ally V shaped plate underneath....as it was tightend the putty was squeezed into the lip and out everywhere, but filed the hull lip completely...just go round with a plastic scraper and clean up.

I did the other hull as well.

It's laster 3 years of abuse.

Thanks Nigel,

I've spoken with other H16 sailors who gave much the same advice.

If you're ever in Dubai on R&R and fancy sailing let me know. There are always boats available at Jebel Ali Sailing Club.

Regards
Conor

Hi,

Thanks for the invite.

Do you have organized races there in Dubai?

The H16 racing scene here in Saudi and in Bahrain is basically non-existent.

We race most Fridays in Dubai. The fleet is mixed consisting mainly of H 16's, Topcats, F18's, Spitfires, Hobie FX One's, Shadows with some other odds and sods. Last Thursday and Friday we had a cat regatta and managed to get 27 boats on the water for very exciting close quarter sailing in 18kt winds. The club (JASC) has 2 H16's and some monohulls it rents out and most members will be also happy to facilitate guest sailors. There's also a big Laser fleet, a couple of monohull doublehanders and some keelboats as well. Visit the website at www.jebelalisailing.com.

Regards
Conor
