Bought a used set of jib battens with the hinges on them and am just getting around to putting them together. Having a lot of trouble getting the hinges in the batten pockets. Got one in but the next one isn't going. I assume I'm putting them in right, long part of the batten, hinge and then short piece of batten with the leach cap on it? Or does the hinge even go in the pocket?

That's the way they go - they are a bit hard to get past the hem / grommets on the leech.

I haven't used them for years, so I don't know how hard they are with newer sails. You might try sanding off the forward corners a little to help slide them in.

I had to do this. On my old '82 jib they slipped right in. When I replaced it with an '02 jib they wouldn't budge. I used a Dremel tool with a fairly coarse sanding drum. I had to take all four edges off to get them in.
