I recentley rescued a 16 from my olders brothers farm, it was origianlly intended to be a wedding gift for friends of his from their mothers cousins uncle...or something like that... long story short, the happy couple was not interested in the boat at all... I sat for at least a year until I found it and brought it out to the coast...

It came with two sets of sails, the original "Carumba" sail (# 57199) which has lead to assume that the boat is a 1980...

My main question is about the other sets of sails that was in the coffin box ... Both the jib and the main are a beautiful solid goldish-yellow color. They were both made by hobie, but there is no sail number on the main.

But there is however, spray painted (I am assuming) on the main, in big red letters the words "CHATEAU LA SALLE." I was wondering if any one knew anything about these sails...

Also, the boat was lacking the entire rudder and tiller assembly. I haven't had any luck finding one (ebay, criagslist). and I was alos wondering if anyone knew where I could get the necessary parts for cheap (used of course)....

It's not uncommon for sails to be used for promotional purposes - they are natural canvasses.

A very quick Google search turned up a Chateau La Salle vinyard in CA - perhaps they contracted with the boat's owner to promote their product.

The real age of your boat can be determined by reading the hull number engraved on the transom.

Hull Number: CCMP1944M80G

So that would make it February 1980, correct?

When I googled "CHATEAU LA SALLE" I found the vinyard as well as a mobile home park in San Jose... If it was advertising, hopefully it was for the vineyard...

I tried translating it using google's translator and got "Castle the Room." Not sure what that is actually supposed to mean....
