Getaway vs H16

So the guy who normally crews for me on my H16 owns a getaway and we were both sailing our boats yesterday on the lake. He shouted to me that he'd like to test who could point higher into the wind. We tried a couple of times to see, and everytime I was about to say "looks like you can point higher" I would then look at his tell-tales and find out he was just dumping wind. In the end, I'd just pass him and zoom down the lake because the H16 is just so much faster.

My friend wants to race handicap against our local beach cat fleet on his Getaway just for kicks he says. So this is why we are interested in the topic.

Does anybody know which boat can point higher? I'd imagine the getaway by the shape of its hulls but I'm not sure. What about the H17 sport? I'm pretty sure it doesn't have dagger boards either.

I would think the 16 would point higher because of the asymmetrical hulls, but that's only speculation.
The 17 will beat out both the Get and the 16, 17s have pivoting centerboards.

I spent a few hours one day with my Getaway, seeing how high I could point it. I found I could get a few degrees higher when I furled the jib.

So if he wasn't trimmed well, maybe your skills aren't matched well enough to make a useful comparison. It would be nice to race an impromptu course and then switch boats and do it again.

The Getaway is interesting to me as a family boat. I don't use the H16 enough, and when we are at the beach there's a need for more space and flotation. I wouldn't expect very high performance from the Getaway but I don't want it to be totally lame either.

Maybe when I go down for the Duck Cup I can experience one.

My local club uses the D-PN numbers for handicap racing. The Getaway is rated quite a bit slower than an H-16 in those ratings.

Of course I know the h16 is lightyears faster than the Getaway... I just want to know which points higher.
