Class II should be fine. All up weight of the boat + trailer + gear would typically put you in the 1000 LB range. It's also a good idea to check your vehicle's owner's manual for max towing capacity.

An advantage of the Class III hitches, however, is that many hitch accessories (bike racks, etc.) tend to be geared to the larger 2" Class III opening.

Another thing to keep in mind when pulling a cat - the hulls!! My sister pulled mine home for me with her GMC pickup. She's been pulling her speedboat for years.... however when you crank it a little bit too sharp you get fiberglass hull vs sheet metal quarter panel (hint: fiberglass wins!);



OUCH!!! Major suck! I've since pulled it and moved it around with my Honda Odyssey van and all is well, but I keep a SHARP eye on my radius when turning/backing! Good luck!
