I am wondering why the corner castings/trampoline frame is attached to the mounting posts using nylon nuts instead of something like stainless steel. I also see the same nylon nuts used for attaching the rudders as well. Is there some advantage to using nylon, or is it better to change them all out with a stainless steel lock nut? Something with a nylon insert?
Do the new H16's have nylon nuts?

Nylon nuts were used so that the nuts would strip out before they could be over-tightened and crack the aluminum casting. The bolts for the pylons basically just act as "keeper pins" so they don't need to be tight and the aluminum corner castings will crack easily if the nuts are tightened too hard.

I believe the new boats use stainless nyloc nuts on the corner casting bolts (definitely on the rudders). You can change out the nylon nuts to stainless nuts, but be careful not to make them too tight.

Thank you.
I have one or two nylon nuts that look cracked and thought about changing them out with some stainless nylocs but will definitely be careful when tightening them.
