Hello all. I have owned a few Hobie cats in past years. I have had a 14 turbo, and also an 18. I am now looking at a used 16. I have a question about the mast. It is in two parts. Is it a comp Tip ? There is a break in the luff track just above seam of the top and lower part of the mast. The break is on one side of the luff track as well there is a break line across, or is it intended to be that way? I’m not sure, please have a look at the picture I would appreciate anyone to respond who puts their eyes on the picture thank you. Above the top part of the mast. The break is on one side of the sale channel as well there is a brake line across or is it intended to be that way I’m not sure please have a look at the picture I would appreciate anyone to respond who puts their eyes on the pictures. Thank you

Yes it is a comp tip and the luff track (Part No. 20616001, Page 53 of parts catalog) needs replacement. I've done this repair before and it was easy. Not sure if it comes with instructions, but as I recall I carefully pried the old one out, cleaned mating surfaces, lubed with dishwashing liquid, lined the new part up snug against the lower, aluminum mast section, and carefully tapped it on with a rubber mallet. (Come to think of it...and I may be wrong, but I seem to remember having to trim the part to the correct length first by hacksawing some off the top. Perhaps the part is made to fit more than one boat/comp tip?)
