I bought my first H16 brand-new in 1982 and sailed it hard until the starboard hull finally gave out in 2006. I bought another brand-new H16 in 2016 (what a sweet boat!) but I have not sailed it nearly as much because of competing interests and changed situations, but I still love my Hobie and will be back on the water soon. Today someone posted a link to the below article on Facebook, and I have questions:

1) What is the "Hobie 16G?"
2) When were the last Hobie 16s manufactured in California?
3) Where was my 2016 model H16 made?

16G is the new World standard version of the H16. This keeps European versions the same as US versions other than the CompTip mast in the US.
Last one built? Boxed yesterday in Oceanside California.
2016 Models for the US market were built in Oceanside California.

Thanks Matt! Good to know. I've got a California Hobie...

I didn't phrase my second question very well. I was actually interested in the time span of the California production hiatus. I seem to have read somewhere that for a while the H16s being sold in the U.S.A. were actually built in France? How long did the Rhode Island people make H16s?

Rhode Island was trying to build Hobie Sailboats only between approximately January 2023 and December 2023.

Hobie 16 hulls have been built in Australia and France for a number of years after we quit molding them in California. I'm unsure of the timelines... 2016 could be an Australian-built hull.

So where would a 1984 "redline" have been built?
