Hello fellow Hobie enthusiasts!
I have my dad's old H16, with sail number 52998 (I think). It's been a great boat, and admittedly I'm nostalgic and a little emotional about getting rid of it. The rest of my family seems to think the boat is unsafe and should be hauled away to the dump, because it will be a hazard to whoever owns it. It permanently lives on a beach and we have no trailer for it. Getting it places for inspection is hard.
The biggest problem I see is the port pontoon is quite soft on top, forward of the trampoline. Everything else seems sound. I've included a few pictures from the last time we tipped the boat over. I can post more if needed. I sailed the boat a lot until 2013 when work took me far away.
I have some questions I hope you guys can help with:
Can the pontoon be fixed? Can the pontoon be replaced? Is it worth it to fix/replace it? Is there other stuff in the pictures that indicates bigger problems? Is it worth the effort to get it on a trailer and somewhere to get it inspected/repaired? Who do I take it to? How can we verify it's generally safe to operate? What's the boat worth in current condition on the used market?
The boat is at Lake Tahoe, Nevada side.
Thanks!!!
