I got these lights from Murray's for christmas one year...

You can purchase cheap carabiners from a harware store and clip them to your bridle or the tips of the hulls and one on the boom or rear crossbar.

As for legal concerns, I understand that you have to have at least one light that can be seen in all directions. This is either for boats that are not under power or under a certain legnth-I can't remember. I tried this once with a aingle light I bought from West Marine.
When a power boat aproached us I heard a voice say "Isn't that a sailboat, and shouldn't they have lights on? The sail and our bodies were blocking the one light. I did shine another light into the sail though and then turned around to go home.

I purchased these in hopes that my friends would share my enthusiasm for sailing at night. I have yet to find one. However, I do plenty of night paddling w/o lights and have a great time at it.

-good luck and Happy (night) sailing.

You don't need mast head lights unless you are anchored or steaming (neither of those are very common on Hobies). you can get teh port/starboard battery powered lights at West Marine for about $25. They even have a suction cup to attach with.

The only thing to add that I have are these 2 points. The West marine lights work great. I do tie a line to the bottom of the port starboard light between the light and the suction cup, then tie it to the front bridal on the boat. I lost one of these years ago when the suction cup released while underway... poof, no night...

Also, I found a battery powered stern light with a treaded connection on the base of the flashlight. I screwed in a stainless eyelet to that fitting, and then put a small aluminum carabiner to the eyelet. Now I just clip that light to the unused main block tang on the boom. EASY and keeps the bright light out of the skippers eyes.
