Greetings all,
While sailing this weekend I noticed that my jib was quite flat on the upper 2/3rd during various beam reaches. The wind speed all day was a published 8-10 mph so not very much. I'm thinking that for wind such as this I should have introduced some camber in my jib to enhance the air flow over the main. I thought the slot looked pretty good as the jib was not back-winding the main nor was the slot to big. I've not found any "camber tables" related to wind speed in the books that I have. Can anyone comment to this?

I was also thinking that I should be able to point a little closer to the wind than I was. Possibly I do not have enough rake on the mast? (I'm currently fastening my side stays on the third hole down of the chainplates).

This definately requires more reading.

Fair winds,
Eric

Some very experienced 16 sailors have offered me the same tuning tip of: You should have enough mast rake to be able to sheet in the main block to block with the jib halyard fully tensioned. If you go block to block with too little effort, you have too much rake. Adjust your shrouds accordingly because shroud lengths may not be consistent from boat to boat.
