After a year rebuild on my H16 I sailied with my gf to the island of Vieques 9.5 miles east of Puerto Rico... to make the short story shorter.
Came back to shore after sailing all day...took the plugs out...water about a gallon in each hull.
Did the vacuum exhaust test with soapy water and located the leak...gudgeon screws. (I have the euro style gudgeons)
I had installed and sealed these with 5200 all around and the screw heads a week back. 8 screws per gudgeon to seal with 5200...not easy.
Anyways I found a new solution to leaking gudgeons and screws...I made a gasket out of thin cork/rubber gasket making material found at auto zone. The softer one used for fuel tanks and water pumps etc.
Cut it with a razor using the gudgeon as a guide, marked and cut the screw holes in the gasket with a small paper hole punch. The screw threads fit tight in this hole. That would seal the gudgeon to the transom only so I made some seals for the screw heads as well. Used a grommet cut out tool to cut tiny circles/disks the size of the screw head (no larger/no smaller, about 3/8") and the hole punch to make the hole for the screw to go thru in the center of these tiny gasket disks.... basicaly a gasket washer.
installed in this order:
gasket/gudgeon/gasket washers/screws...but havent tried yet...Ill let u know... if I dont sink too far from shore to swim:D
