Has anyone used vinyl decals or numbers, sponsorship, etc. on hobie dacron sails. Will it work?

Thanks,

Han

I do not think vinyl decals will work, unless it has a type of addhesive. I would consult a local design shop and ask them. I had my decals made and apllied them myself to my hulls. This is one you may want profficialy done just in case you have problems you can take them back for repair. If you don't mind me asking what are your plans :?:

I want to put my phone number and the word "CALL" on the sails of my boats. I do rentals and guided tours and want to build business. Ideally I would like to put my logo on the sail.

It seems to me all these racers would have to have their sponsorship logos made out of something? I can't find anyone working with Dacron "stickyback" so it must be self adhering outdoor vinyl?

I'm about to get out a sharpie marker and write it on myself :D I like the idea of vinyl in case my phone number changes.

Thats cool, I have a sailing buddy who puts his boat registration number on his boom that truly stands out, But not as much as The Hinekin sails used in Mexico for the H-16 worlds. what about a sailloft like Rooke or some where. I'm sure they have the means to prudce a product for you. or even do it your self sail repair tape might last a season or two.

Go to sailrite.com, click on "On-Line Shopping"

Do a search for "insignia"

Adhesive backed dacron insignia cloth 54" wide sells by the yard ($17.50 a yard)

Sail numbers are cut out of very thin sail cloth with adhesive backing. You can order sail numbers from Hobie I think or stop at your local sail maker and they can cut them out for you.

cheers

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered some vinyl samples and tested them. They peeled off within a few days. Of course there are better vinyls and higher tacks (stickiness).

I took good advice and bought Dacron Insignia cloth from Sailrite.com. At 54" x 1 yard for $17.50 it's cheaper than vinyl! I'll have to cut the characters myself but I know they'll stick, no matter how ugly.

Thanks,
Han
