Frozen Halyard Pulley

Inspecting the pulley for the main halyard(large plastic wheel inside of cast aluminum housing at top of mast), I discovered it is frozen. Apparently for quite some time, the cable has just been gliding over the wheel when raising and lowering the sail. I wd40ed it, let it sit over night, but it's still stuck. Should I bother trying higher quality penetrating oil, or just bite the bullet and get out the drill? It's probably flat spotted anyway Are there bearings in there or just a shaft? Thanks for the help...

No replacement parts are available for the old style mast head, so it makes no sense to take it apart.

Just replace the entire mast head with a used one. They always show up on eBay, and I'll wager most dealers have a box of them left over from Comptip retrofits.

try using a screw driver and a hammer to kind of chisel it loose ... or get it started turning i did this to an old mast that was sitting for years and it finally came free..... good luck...

I got it loose! Instead of a screwdriver I used a flat file.... it grips plastic really well, but doesn't sink too far into it when you tap it. So a bunch of taps with a hammer, a whole bunch of WD-40 and it now rolls pretty well.
