How tight do you tie your battens in to the mail sail?

It wasn't that violent a jibe - wind was only 11 knots. I got distracted by flipping the tiller extension over. But it wasn't so bad, so I'm really not sure why the battens tore through.

The most comprehensive way that I've seen batten tension adjusting described is like this.
Place the batten in the pocket with the main resting on the tramp.
Tension the batten so that when you snap it up it just barely stays (doesn't snap down) when supporting it from the bolt rope to the adjuster tip.

I'd be a little worried if my brand new sail poked a batten in 11 knots of breeze. Hopefully it wasn't one of mine. :oops:
Hobie Dacron sails are top of the line as far as durability.
