I just bought a 1979 H16. The hulls are in good shape I'm fixing a soft spot on the starboard front hull. Question being a 1979 and not knowing the stress prior to the stay mounts on the side and front, would it be prudent to beef up thoughs areas with fiberglass layup? Note I see no cracking. Thanks.

Also I live in Florida I was thinking of putting a 4" access hole on each hull between the tramp posts in the middle fo the hull so the hulls could breath when stored. What do you think. Thanks again. Bt

New wires and the anchor pins. Check the bow tangs as well. The short thick wire above the jib halyard block (pigtail) should be replaced too. On a boat that old, replace the trap wires as well. The mast tang, the metal part that holds the wires may need attention too. The old single hole tangs bend, crack, and punch a hole in the mast. The newer three hole tang is what you are looking for. Don't neglect the seven or ten hole adjusters. These are prone to fail at the weld.

I wouldn't put the 4" holes in the boat. The drain plug holes should be fine. I have seen cracking be a problem sometimes when people install inspection ports.

Totally unnecessary. Never seen one fail (on a 16).

Done correctly, you should have no problems with a port there and that's the best place to put one. Probably a good idea to get the boat well dried out since you already have boat cancer (soft spots).

What part of Florida are you in? I would like to echo replacing the standing rigging, its not a matter of if but when they will fail. new rigging is cheap insurance!

My stays are "A" ok, I just was wondering how strong the mounts on the patoons can be. I was hit by a stupid stinkpot 70' yaucht and it's almost 5' wake. I was afraid the stays might break out when hit with such a force. I held on to the stays to lessen the force. All is ok I was just wondering if the stay mounts could ever be a problem and if anyone has ever reinforced that area. I live in Montverde out side Orlando, Fla. Can I order parts through you and have them dropped shiped to me? :P
