Rear Traveler car

Hi Everyone!

I just bought my very first Hobie Cat. It is a 1980 that I got for $600... and it is in really great shape all around. The only thing is I am missing the rear traveler car for the mainsheet system.

Does anyone know where I could find a used one for a descent price... I am in college and used all my money to buy the boat in the first place! Haha!! I really can't afford like $80 for a new one and I can't find one on ebay. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be tremendously appreciated!

If you can get a used one, great. However, you will need special countersunk rivets to re attach the traveler track on the cross bar...otherwise the car will get stuck. There are several posts here about techniques people use to pull those rivets as most tools don't get into the tracks well. They generally include placing washers around the rivet shank and then attaching the tool.

One question...is the track still attached to the cross bar? the rear car should not be able to come out of the track if the track is still attached. So I am curious as to how its missing.

The track is still attached and in good condition, but the car was not in the track when I bought the boat.

It came with a car that was all smashed up and broken in a box of extra parts and stuff.

Glad to hear that it helped.

You will have to drill out one or two rivets to insert the new car. Again...you need special countersunk rivets to reattach it so the car will slide smoothly.

The rivets are readily available @ any Hobie dealer. They are included along with instructions in the new kit. If you get your hands on a use traveler make sure its the right one for your year boat and the rollers are in good working order.

My boat in a 1980 H16, does it need to have the pre-1994 rollers, etc? or will a newer one work as well?

must have Pre 94 rollers, the others will not work.
