:) I know all fellow Cat'rs like to hear about stories of sailing and good deals, so here's mine: I had owned a 16 for almost 20 years and unfortunately had sold it, so I picked up a 14 but never took it out, thought I was too heavy for it, (200). So, keeping my eye open for another 16, I was watching the infamous Graigslist, I saw a Hobie not more than 10 miles from me come up for sale, I immediately called him 5 times and wrote 10 and behold, he called and said he had it yet, my son and I ran as fast as we could to check it out. The hulls were faded a little but very solid, I asked to see the sails and upon opening the sail tube, they were Tequila Sunrise!

I just paid $1,000 for what I think is the same boat. 1978? w/Tequila Sunrise sales.
Difference is I've never sailed and just today have gotten it rigged, I think.

Yes Dave, it is a '78. He had bought it in '03 and only sailed a few times, and he lived on a 100 acre lake! Have a blast on yours, we're all sure you'll love it!

That's a nice sail colour pattern...too bad they don't have "retro" colour schemes.

Nice catch.

Jeff.

NICE find - with trailer? man that was a deal. My first find on Craigs list - was listed for 1000.00 no one contacted him in months - so he was EAGER - it was a bit diirty under his tree and more beat than I wanted - esp for 1000.00. He said how much to take it - I said 450. He siad 500? I paused - then said - 450.00.
(with trailer) got it home - did a few hours of power washing and had it in that day - was a BLAST... but wanted something a bit better shape. Found another on craigs list - with 3 sails (one pretty poor - one very good - and one excellent) 3 booms, almost complete extra frame, 3 booms, each with blocks, this one is a 83 I think - with trailer - was 1900.00 got it for 1700.00 with the 3 sails and lots of extras (About 100.00 in hardware- small bits - shackles etc) maybe 200.00 in bits... all sails have battens, 2 extra pairs of rudders and arms 2 hot sticks, normal tiller, so lots of goodies. I figure the EXCELL sail is worth 500.00 so the boat really was only 1200.00 and 200 in hardware (25.00 quick release shackles in there as well (2) all the extra parts easily worth 200+ so I think I did good - I love having them both as my son in law runs one and we race it's a blast even in low wind - seeing who can sneak out the little bit to get ahead.

Enjoy! (pics of mine are inthe thread called MY TWO BOATS - LOTS OF PICS).
Shows the 2 boats and 3 of my 4 sails.

Rojoyinc, I saw your pictures of boats, they look great! Yes, with trailer and sail tube, that's a first for me! I'm in the process of buffing my hulls down, they have discolored a little, will update pictures when done. I too got some accessories with boat, sold half the stuff and made 160 out of it, so, 140 for a Hobie 16? That makes great sailing! Now, if I can just find a hitch for my car :(
Get it up and keep it up!

I just bought a 4x4 pickup - so can tailer more easily now.

About to pull them for the winter - and wanted to buff the hulls in the garage, but wondering... keep them on the beach for the winter and buff the hulls in teh early spring before the lake ice is gone? Not sure yet - I do want to work on them (I have a new tramp and moving old mesh to vinyl trap - and new trap to replace slightly used tramp on mesh boat). So I'll have turq blue mesh on both. the two boats as a blast as my son in law uses one and I use one and we do informal racing. (only two cats on the lake) so we can drop a couple bouys or just try to outrun each other. fun even in very light winds to see who can move... (at least slowly) = )

Just not sure what to do this winter... or where/how when to work on them.
