My mast step rotation stops are pretty battered and I want to replace it. I have a spare thats in pretty good shape. I noticed that the bottom of the step is tapped and I don't recall how difficult it was to remove it from my parts boat. (I can't remember if I pried it lose and stripped it or ?) Is the dolphin stricker designed to be screwed into the hole in the bottom of the step or is just epoxyed in the step hole. I've glued the boat so unscrewing the stricker is questionable. I am leaning towards getting the steps mast rotation stops built up by a welder, any experiences out there with this? I have looked through the forum and did not see any topics regarding this.

The dolphin striker is screwed into the bottom of the mast step. On older boats, you can get corosion that makes it rather difficult to undo.

As for your boat being glued, I have heard people removing the dolphin striker rods without disassembling the boat. I guess you just have to work it a bit, being careful (of course).

If you do opt for getting material added to the stops, let us know how it goes. I hear it can be done, but you need special equipment as the parts are aluminum.

Good luck!

Thanks. I printed that out for future reference.
I'll save folks some time, the article is on pages 16 & 17 in the PDF
