Has anyone ever heard of wings for the Hobie 16 :?: I see them on the bigger Hobies and I think they look like they could make sailing the 16 even more fun.
Thanks,
Ken

Here is a pic of a Hobie 16 with wings.

I believe they are cut down / shortened H18 wings.

Cool photo Nige,
Do you know anything more about the owner of the boat?
The ones on E-bay. Were they home made or.... ?
Sounds like some other sailers are having the same ideas. Cool that we can air them on this forum.
Thanks,
Ken

Ooops,

Looks like I've been naughty by giving a link to the H16 with wings photo.

Oh well, all I was trying to do was to help fellow sailors with some info.

I couldn't find the owner of this photo, but I'm sure that he would be glad to show off his fantastic wings and that so many people both here and on the Beachcats forum have shown so much interest in them.

Maybe it could be the start of a Hobie 16 Magnum solo sailed class, might be a way to maintain interest in regattas and outings for guys that can't get crews, or just like to have fun "solo".

Maybe someone should start a poll on the solo H16 subject.

The photo was from the http://www.TheBeachcats.com website which is a general chit-chat sort of Beachcat forum.

They have some great photos, so go and have a look....also under the Hobie Wings photo there are some "comments" and one of those is a brief construction description.

Happy Sailing everyone,

Nige

Anyone who is interested in more detail about the new wings (the maker calls them "bench seats") for the Hobie 16. I've just published the first article about them, complete with pictures and installation manuals.

Nigel,

That's ok, I've changed the security settings on TheBeachcats.com to allow the forums here at Hobiecat.com to use my pictures. I was losing huge bandwidth to image leaching on some popular general interest forums. But the whole purpose of TheBeachcats.com is to promote an increased interest in catamaran sailing, so if I can help here at the Hobie forums by providing pictures to illustrate posts, thats fine.

Enjoy,

A $1050 and Square corners? I think both would hurt!

Burley, I made some seats from some 8" pvc pipe and aluminum brackets I made. I basically copied a commercial product I found on the net. They had custom fiberglass seats which I substituted the pvc.
