i suppose i can post some pics....

this was my 1st time on a Hobie (other than hobie waves which i raced as a kid in the BVIs when we chartered every year)

1st time out on a trap too.....it was for my bro's wedding, his father in law as a $2k camera and took some SWEET pics...heres a couple...

Im the older looking one, wearing the really short shorts!!! My brother in law law took the helm most of the time, as this was my first small boat sailing in the ocean with huge waves...but ive been sailing since i was about 6 (23 now) so i knew what i was doing...he was kinda a helm-hog!

We ended up flipping her twice (he HATED riding a hull) and we broke the tillar extension...

when i got back i bought a hobie 14T about a week later, sold it (and made money off of it) and then bought this sucker a while later, now im fully restoring it because i barely spent a dime on it!

Image

This is my 14T before i had a trap harness...i miss that boat! (baby bob broke off!)

Sorry, I am new. I actually did find that but when I saw dingy/the look of the rope and thought that cant be right. It looks really rough/plastic like to be running through your hands and the blocks no? And dont I need 8mm for the jib and 9.5mm for the main? I see 7/8mm on there.

take Matt's earlier advice and call Jeremy (or any other Hobie dealer). Line preference is very subjective, getting first hand opinions, within your budget, will be priceless.

If you make one goof-up on your intraweb order, it'll wipe out all the savings you may have realized.

ps and no need to apologize for being new. everyone was at some point. welcome aboard ps

Call Jermey @surf city catamarans if your looking for "exotic" line. Any dealer can get you the standard current factory line. I don't do metric but I use 1/4" for jib 5/16" for main

Yes, that is Bzzz line which I like in light to moderate conditions. Yes, it only comes in 7/8mm sizes. Although smaller diameter, I prefer using it for my mainsheet on my H16 and H17. It appears slick and "plastic like" in the photos, but is actually very soft. Probably doesn't have the life of tighter weave polyesters, but is very affordable and somewhat similar in feel to Salsa line at about half the price.

yup, take the advice of an expert on lines and blocks, save some $$$. I just assembled a new 16 about a month ago and was surprised to see the small micro blocks and 1/4" line for the jibsheet. The mainsheet too has some carbo small upper blocks and smaller line. Seems blocks and lines have gotten smaller through the years, and more effective--costwise too.
