Ok am I missing something here? Mast rake is obtained by the jib halyard. Right? After jib is set the shroud adjustment is only to take up the slack in the shrouds. Right? With my 07 boat I can easily get block to block with the main sheet so why does one need or want longer bridle or (shorter) shrouds? I do however completely agree with shorter trap wires, when I have my mast raked pretty far aft I can't get enough adjustment to keep a little tension on the shock cord.
The boat is designed to have tension in the wires. If the shrouds are too long, you can not tension the rig with the mast raked back, so... shorter shrouds.
