Not everyone takes their mast down after every sail. Hobie developed something that's not messy and relatively long lasting if you get it centered in the cup.
Grease is not recommended. It won't prevent metal-to-metal contact when the fit between the pieces is imprecise (like the mast base / step). You'll grind down the mast base.
Multiple, partly worn bearing chips are OK.
For the Delrin bearing, you need to drill a hole in the top of the dolphin striker post to hold it in place.
