Here is a picture of "vicious virgin", a crab boat in the Chesapeake.... I was under sail on a 43' tartan... and he was running on diesel.. he decided that he didn't need to alter his course at all... and I surely wasn't altering mine either.. he came within 20' of the stern... I think less.. but I'll go with that number.

Those crabbing boys out on the Chesapeake have it easy compared to the Alaskan guys, you'd think they could afford to actually give a sailboat the right of way.
I nearly hit a fisherman on my re-entry to the harbor here in Wisconsin last year.. it was an older gentleman with his grandson or something in the boat... his grandson just sat there and watched as I had to make a split second turn in order to avoid hitting them after they crossed my bow... I was probably a foot from him and I couldn't believe that the kid didn't even make a move or alert his grandpa. I really thought about just hitting him cause he blatantly violated my space and the rules of the water... instead I wanted to have a chat with him on land... but the wind didn't quite cooperate with me and he was able to get his boat out of the water and pull away before I had my cat on the dock.
Rude people suck!
