Jeremy your point is well taken. And it got me thinking (DANGEROUS), wouldn't the same logic for tying off to the dolphin striker also apply to tying to the base of the shroud itself? Just for the sake of leverage, wouldn't pulling on the mast directly, by way of the shroud, provide the best mechanical advantage you could hope for? Or tying off to a trap line?
Again, just speaking to leverage here only, I realize storing such a line while underway or connecting such a line while downed would be an issue, but I would think that pulling from that location would be the strongest point to pull from. Just a thought.
How about a much shortened version of what I pictured above, only it would tie off to the shroud base and run side-to-side. When downed you would reach up and pull on this and you would be pulling down on the shroud itself.
Just thinking out loud here folks, shoot holes in it!!!!
