"kerosene and a torch or numerous.."

Hmmm..you don't say. I can do this. So, whats' the distance between the hulls and the torch?

 Kidding

My last ditch resort for 'disorder is pouring cheap beer on my hulls at sundown, attract the entire colony of slugs and snails to crawl across it all evening, buff the trails. Glossy. Interesting. Done.

hook that thing up and bring it north. Don't forget the beer and we'll knock it out in a day.

Have you gotten around this project yet ? FWIW, I went through a restoration process in my white SX 18, only before using Jeremy's recommended product, I used many wet sand grits starting with 600, 800,1200, then 1500. THEN, Jeremy's recommended rubbing compound. After that, use the white cream by 3M, NOT the one you've shown. As a final step, protect the finish with two or three applications of a good quality Carnauba wax. Repeat your Carbauba wax before each season, once during the season, and at the end. Your boat will shimmer like new, but the color will still not be the original.

When you sand, switch sanding direction between grits to make sure you've removed the previous grit's scratches, and make the necessary corrections. It's a time consuming job, but worthwhile.

You don't want to do this and go through all the trouble if your gel coat is totally shot. Inspect with a magnifying glass and if you see major damage don't bother. Also, when I did this I damn near reached the glass on some areas, so this is a one shot try only. The most difficult areas are close to the bows. I suspect these areas have a thinner layer of gel coat because it's a tough place to get into inside the mold.
