How about the grommets and a quick release, replace the grommets as they ware out? Just a thought. Not that it takes that long to restring the jib sheet, but every minute on land is one less minute on the water :)

That would also work...use the grommets and then I could use a shackle without damaging the holes... The grommets will wear out but not as fast as the plate would. As u said ..replace them every season if there is a shackle if not use a line and dont have to replace anything.

I don't for see the clew plate wearing out with in, um lets say at least 5 years! I have a 2004 worlds boat, raced at world, shipped to New York, raced at alter cup I think, then at H16 nationals, shipped back to me, and the US sailing youth team trained on it for about 8 mo, sailing at least 3 times a week, and it is still in great shape! I would go for a shackle and keep it simple and go sailing!!!

We use the Harken H224, they are less than 9 bucks each we use a 4.7 mm bow shackle to make the connection, we put the belly of the shackle thru the sail, put blocks on each side, turn the shackle up and put the pin thru the next hole up on the jib, this will allow for a lower setting on the forestay adjuster. We have been doing this for years and never have had a problem or wanted bigger blocks, we run 1/4 line for our jib sheets.

Back up guys. What Brad has suggested gives you the lowest profile possible, and it is the least expensive option to boot. Harken would love for you all to outfit your whole boat with carbo airblocks. It is not necessary. Most of the best are sailing with the setup Brad suggested.
