Large tarps can also allow rain water to pool and subsequently hold huge amounts of water weight. Many years ago I had a tarp tented over a H20 mast and the tarp collected rain water causing the mast to bend probably a foot or more. Luckily it did not result in a permanent bend, but it was probably close.

After seeing what rain water can do, anytime I have tented a tarp over a mast since then, I have intentionally cut drain holes in the tarp so it won't hold water.

I had to work on my tramp this winter, but I prefer to take the tramp off over the winter...it saves wear on the tramp, makes it easier to tarp, and won't pool water or snow. Of course, since it is off, I really don't want to trailer it until I put it back on....makes the boat kinda wobbly. And it is more work in the spring, but I'm okay with that if it keeps the tramp looking good :D

Nothing worse than the wind treating a Hobie like a kite.

I like my trailer tongue elevated so any water that may condensate within the hulls during the winter can drain out the open drain plugs.
This also keep the boat cover drier.
Being dry inside in the off season is important. :)
