I can recommend the bamboo tiller. Can be bought cheap at garden centers.
As I am sailing alone most of the time I buy ca 3 m long often cheaper in a bundle.
Home made connection to cross bar.

Even when cracked it can still be used and repaired with some tape: will be stiff again.
Have spare one at the club so I can exchange within minutes

Can we get some pics of that? How you drilled the hole for the connection and things. Would be a cool quirky twist on my boat.

Hey,
I love my old school aluminum twist lock extension. It fits my hand, blah blah blah...

So, I'm trying to get the 30-year-old thing to slide and lock better. I took it apart, and in the process some waxy and gritty material came out. I have cleaned out the inside of the larger tube completely. The exterior of the inner tube is also now clean.

The questions are:

Was the waxy substance required to make the twist lock grab?
Should I re-lubricate the twist lock mechanism with plumbers lube, or would that make the twist-lock not work?
Does anyone know what that waxy/gritty substance was? It was like the leftover goop you get after taking off a price tag.

Thanks,

DK

My boat came with an Arriba Hot Stick. It's black, fiberglass, extendable, and has a really nice rubber grip. I Love it!!!!
