I definately agree with sailing within your comfort zone... Some other thing that will ensure your safety and confidence in being able to get the boat over may be a righting line (you probably have one of those already), You may want to get a Hobie Bob for the mast and perhaps a Power Righter so you can get the boat back over by yourself and she wont even have to help.

Once you know you can get the boat back over you will feel better about pushing it and increasing your overall skill in the process too.

so i was out with my girl friend the other day and we went over and we couldn't get it back. what is the minimum weight to flip it back over because combined we are probably 245 and i think that the hull that was buried was taking on water.

Wow that went turtle quick.

Yeah.. will a 16 turtle that fast??? I haven't capsized mine yet.. but I need to... so I know how to right it. If I turtle, I'm screwed... 28' mast with 12-20' lake...

The worst part of getting your mast stuck in the mud (assuming the bottom of the lake is muddy not rocky) is the huge globs of mud that fall on you after you do get it righted

A 16 won't go turtle that quick unless it's rediculously windy. Like 25+ and the boat lands perpinduclar to the wind.

Ooooh! Who doesn't love spreading a muddy main across the lawn and washing it with a hose?
