I'd be very concerned about a bent aluminum extrusion. When properly rigged, the mast is under a serious amount of compression. There is a phenomenon called "columnar buckling" which is easily illustrated by standing on a perfect beer can with one foot, then have someone poke the middle of the can with a stick. You will immediately crush the can. Given a properly sized patch plate, I'm sure this issue can be reduced, but I doubt it can ever be healed completely. Does anyone have any experience with sleeves? Good luck. We've all dropped masts for one reason or another. Maybe an anniversary, birthday, or some other Hallmark Holiday will give you a credit with the house.
Good argument!!!
I would think that good sleeving should work if the mast is perfectly straightened and the T-6 plate is annealed and shape formed to perfectly form-fit at least 8" past the damaged area and then fastened with plenty rivets... Not very desirable either, but probably sufficient for fun use...
