New to sailing, bought a used Hobie 16

How do rig/sail this thing?

The only videos on I've found online seem to be VHS. I've downloaded the manual, but it shows set up from new, not used with several bags of rope and connectors randomly stuffed together.

I'm in Arkansas with a few lakes minutes away but I haven't found any local catamaran sailing clubs.

Should I try to join a "regular" sailing club?

What books/videos would ya'll recommend, and where do I get them?

Hobie has a rigging dvd that is supposed to be very good. You can't find it online. With all your rigging in a bag, it is probably the way to go.

I just got it last week. its good, but its not really very detailed on running the lines and stuff. just getting it ready once all the halyards and sheets are already installed. Although im pretty sure i have mine all figured out, im still looking for that definite manual of exactly how to run all the lines up the mast etc.

Where are you in Northwest AR? Eureka Springs, Fayetteville, etc? I grew up in Berryville and Live in Mount Vernon , MO and Sail at Stockton Lake. I know Beaver is a better sailing lake than Table Rock, there also used to be some hobies that sailed on Beaver Lake out by the state park by the dam, but that was a few years ago. You might search the forum for [u][u]Arkansas and see if any other members are located in your area.
Reading the manual is usually the easiest way to set it up, but the DVD might be more helpful in your situation. I don't know of any dealers in AR, but you might contact St. Louis Sailing Center.

They might have the DVD on hand.
An excellent book to read is "Catamaran Sailing From Start To Finish" by Phil Berman. St. Louis Sailing Center might have it in stock, or you might check at Hastings Books or Barnes and Noble. This book basically taught my wife and I how to sail Hobies, however we were experienced before that on monohulls. A big part of learning to sail a hobie is to get out there and have fun!

I'm ordering a the few parts I think I need, I'm sure I'll need a few more once I can try to set up.

Murrays has several catamaran VHS videos. The beginner tape includes important trailering and launching details. Not sure I can tell you where to find a VCR anymore though.
