I am getting a 1984 Hobie 16 the first part of June. It is sitting in new jersey and I'm in Missouri. It's free as long as I go get it. It has no trailer. Can someone take some measurments of the tramp frame. I have a utility trailer that I taking to go get it and I'm wondering if it will fit on it.

Harleyworker - I just measured my tramp frame.
85" front to back
88" side to side
about 119" diagonal
I believe the hulls are 16'7" and the mast is 26'.
Since you're getting the boat for free, you might consider buying a new or used trailer in either New Jersey or Missouri. You'll probably need one eventually.
Good Luck!

I have a old v-bottom boat trailer that I'm going to modify here in Missouri but I am going to wait till I have the Hobie here before I do all the cutting and welding on it. And the utility trailer has regular 15 in wheels instead of the 12 on the boat trailer so highway running will be a little better. Thanks for the measurements.

Hey harleyworker! where are you located in Missouri? I am in Mount Vernon and sail at Stockton Lake.

I'm in Kansas city. I'll be sailing on smithville or sometimes on lake of ozarks by Warsaw by highway 7 bridge.

Harley,

I grew up waterskiing that part of "the Lake", putting in at the old city park in Warsaw. You'll find Truman is much better for sailing, and Stockton, where John Grace sails, is awesome (best kept sailing secret in the state of Missouri)

For a side trip, think about coming out to Clinton Lake (Lawrence) some time.

check our link below, email for more details

Fair winds,
John

Your right about Stockton being awesome for sailing. Been on it once on a friends boat, beautiful lake!!!! I didn't know about the fleet on Clinton, I'll have to come out there when I get mine so you guys can show me some pointers. The Hobie I'm getting in June is my uncles that I learned to sail on some 24 years ago, and I haven't had much practice since then. Thanks and wish me luck.

Please do come on out to Clinton. That's a major part of what fleets are all about, helping people get on, or back on, the water safely (gotta loose that racing only stigma!)

Yea I'll have no business racing, I'll probaly be pushing the weight limit without the boat.
LOL. Neat website too, lots of info that I'll be using, and it's good to find some locals I can sail with and get some experience. Thanks again.
