Hobie 16 mast rake and shroud question

Been reading.. and to get the best speed / performance.. you need a wicked "rake". Matt says the shroud length changed again in 2009 to allow for more rake.
So Murrays sells 2 kinds of h16 replacement shrouds 1/8 and 5/32 thickness.

Matt or anyone out there have an opinion on shroud thickness? do I need to go to 5/32? or it that unecessary?

Can i acheive this kind of mast rake on my 71 H16 with sails from the 80s. I heard the jib might need to be recut to compensate. Anything else i might need to have done. I heard the mast base may not allow the amount of rake as a newer boat

When i got the boat it had original 71 rigging (as far as i know) and the mast stood perfectly straight. Then i got new rigging from saltydog marine (yea yea i know not a hobie dealer) and i do have alot of mast rake but not as much as other people i saw down at the San Diego Classic in june. I could get more mast rake off my rigging now because the forestay still has alot of slack in it when i hoist the jib. The only problem is my jib flutters when sailing upwind and i cant pull it in anymore. Is that because of the mast rake? Also my rudders fight me like crazy with the current amount of mast rake. If i went any further i dont think i would have the muscle to control the rudders. How can i fix this?

You have quite a few considerations beyond wires...

Max mast rake is primarily limited by the mainsheet system on the boat. You can only rake as far aft as to be able to sheet the main still. A 71 would have a 5:1 system with a stacked block on the traveler car. The max rake would be more if using 6:1 with triple sheave ratchet and boom blocks. More still if you go to smaller sheaves.

The mast step casting and base are limiters.

An old main may limit rake as well (stretched).

Move the jib higher in the bridle adjuster.

Rudder rake can be adjusted by re-drilling the blades. I have a FAQ on that: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=467
