Hi! I am new to sailing Hobie cats and bought an old one that I have being fixing and sailing. I have learned a lot from reading all the information on this site but I have a question.

My mast has a single hole Mast tang. Do I have to replace it if I want to use the trapeze or can I just add a single set on?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Larry

Welcome Larry

A single set will work fine on the old, single hole, tang. They used to swage two trap lines under one thimble for the double-trap set up. You can accomodate double wires on both sides by hanging a simple, smaller, bow shackle on either side.

Thanks that will save me some time and money. Are you saying if you want to do the double you would put two bow shackles onto the shackle that the stays are attached to, one on each side or put another shackle through the mast tang and put the trapeze on that?

One comment about the older single hole tangs... they were prone to cracking. Inspect carefully.
