Slippery Tramp

Hello All,

Have any of you ever experienced a slippery tramp? I didn't seem to notice this last year (maybe because my performance wasn't what it is now) but the other day as I sheeting in my traveler ( I was tacking from a reach) I felt myself slide across the tramp having to put my foot on the rear crossbar to complete the task. This had never happened before. It is not a mesh tramp and yes, it was very wet. Does anyone have have the same problem or does anyone have any ideas?

I didn't even include the part about IT being very wet.

One of our fleet members had bought an 18 last season and the person that sold it to him (another fleet member) had Armor-Alled the tramp the day be it was picked up.

Now the story about how my than 15 year old daughter and he slipped and slid around the boat at evey direction change was kind of hard to believe untill I too a ride with him. What a riot!!!!!!!!!!

May be a stupid question...has it been turned over? The back side has little traction.

Hey John,

No, the question is not stupid and no, it has not been turned over. On Tuesday, I'm going to soap it down with a thorough rinse and apply an anti-skid treatment. Hopefully, that will make it better.

When we rebuilt or boat last summer thr tramp was solid just faded. I went to a automotive store and ordered vinyl spray paint that was for repainting teh door panels on cars. It is about $12.00 a cal and it took 2 cans. Our tramp looks amazing. It was an easy and inexpensive way to get a "new" tramp.

New tramps are always slippery. We always scrub the tramps with some Ajax cleanser or something to get the oils off the surface before sailing. Makes a huge difference on a new tramp.

Thanks all, I had tried dish detergent and even alcohol but neither worked. Never thought about using cleanser. Anyway, I found a anti-skid spray coating made by Krylon that worked very well. It's durable and made for exterior use though I wish I'd thought of the Ajax idea first.
