I put the new battens in and sailed the hobie for the first time tonight....the wind was light but we had a blast anyhow! Is it normal that my jib sail was getting hung up on the mast? Maybe I had the jib halyard to tight?

Totally normal in light winds - you will need to pop the jib past the mast and halyards manually in light winds. In heavier winds it is not a problem. Enjoy your Hobie :)

Tom,

It is a common problem for the jib battens to hang up in light wind. One thing that would help is to pull the jib halyard back along the mast to keep them from adding to the problem. There used to be a small clip you could buy and install on the mast to do that but I simply tie the halyard back toward the downhaul with a piece of line (actually the very end of the jib halyard itself). It doesn't solve all the problem but it helps.
