furling jib rig questions

I have the harken furling system. There are no 10 hole adjusters in this rig. However, with a second person hanging on the trapeze I can tighten the side stays to the shortest length allowed by their adjusters. Do I need a 10 hole adjuster on the furling jib rig? It works great as is now but I'm not used to this non halyard setup. Is a 10 hole adjuster in the harken rig absolutely necessary to get the proper rake out of the rig? How long should the whole rig from the tang to where it connects to the roller furler drum be?
