Hey guys, it's been a while, but I think I'm going to FINALLY buy a H16. I was wondering what you thought of the description of a boat I'm looking at for $1400 (seems like a good deal to me).

This boat is in excellent shape! Hulls are bright white, solid all around, and do not leak. Boat has been sailed every summer with family for many years and never disappoints. Boat is on LBI and ready to sail! Includes the following:

- all rigging/ready to sail today

- sails in good shape (recreation not for racing)

- batten-boom equipped mainsail reduces head-banging

- spare mainsail for standard boom/main setup

- colorful sails with see-through window jib

- roller-furling jib system for easy beaching

- straight mast with mast-bob to prevent turtling

- anti-dive plates to keep pontoons above water

- trapeze harnesses/vests (4)

- high quality harken blocks

- galvanized trailer built for H16 in excellent condition

- 2 standard boom spares

- spare battens

Thanks,

Lou

I think that is a great price for what you would be getting. Actually it sounds like a steal.

Thanks SSS.

I just found out it's either a 1982 or 1984 boat from the guy's wife. More info to follow.

I paid $850 ~3 years ago for my '81 including a trailer and 2 1/2 sets of sails. But, I have spent $$$ replacing running and standing rigging, adding a mast bob, bow foils, buying trapeze harnesses and PFDs, replacing and upgrading the trap system including key-hole buckles, upgrading the stock jib system to the trentec system with a total of four swivel cam cleats, jib super battens, goose neck bearing kits, telltales, righting system, and lots of work on the trailer including re-wiring it, adding sail tubes and a toolbox, plus more "little stuff."

Sounds like you have a lot of that already plus the roller-furler (which I will likely do next year), upgraded sails, a solid, read-ready trailer, the harken blocks and some other spare parts.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Get ready for some fun!

Thanks for the response Jman.

If you don't mind me asking (just trying to fully understand how much I could possibly spend): How much did you spend on all your upgrades?

Thanks.

I don't mind at all, if I knew I'd tell you.

Wouldn't be that hard to figure out, just comb through the catalog(s) and eBay and that will get you a rough idea. I dunno, another $1K, maybe $1.3K. Failed to mention the aftermarket mesh tramp also.

Thanks guys for all your help. I ended up buying it. There a couple of things wrong with it, but probably "normal" stuff for a used, 30 year old boat. I'll start a new thread and post pics on the forum shortly.
