My son recently broke one of the plastic trapeze handles on my Hobie 16. Since I bought replacements I have learned that there are better ones than the one I ordered but thought I'll go ahead and use this one since I have it. My question is how do you get the thing on the trap wire without dissasembling one of the ends to slide it over? If you do then is there a preferred way to do it?

Thanks,

Fred

If you bought the original equipment plastic handle they aren't really made for replacement as much as for making a new set of trap wires with a swaging tool. There is a replacement metal handle sold that comes in two parts that screw together. I don't think there is any way to get an old crimp lug off of a cable.

Last year I bought one of the two piece handles and it works fine and is easy to install.

If your standing rigging is in GOOD shape and you have access or know someone with access to a swager, then you can cut the old swaging off close and reswage with the new handles. WARNING: Makes the reach distance a little longer and may not be practical for shorter folks.
If you can, these come highly recommended.
