I have read previous posts on repair/replacement of mast base. I did not note if you should or should not use rivet caps in this application. I have read in this forum that rivet caps should be used any time you penetrate the mast, however this is below the internal mast plug. ?????

Caps are not necessary for the mast base. That area of the mast gets wet by design. The mast base does not form a perfect seal to the mast.
