I ordered(through the dealer) my new hobie 16,Misty sails with blue tramp. The dealer informs me Hobie, told him this colour combo would really clash.Anybody have this combo. This is my 3rd 16 ,but my first brand new out of the box one(Kind of want it to look purrty).I am not too keen on the turquios tramp.

They tell me that they have heard (from the field) that the combo is not quite right. The Turquoise is a better match. They also suggested Black or grey tramps.

If you don't mind me asking, what is a new H16 msrp? Thanks.

Just to be clear... the 16 North American boats had Misty sails and Turquoise tramps... not blue.

OK, Matt's right. You can see the difference in this photo:

Image

There's one boat with a blue tramp. All the other "blue" tramps are "turquoise" - which looks like a darker blue.

If you look at the 2006 color guide. The blue looks much darker than the turquoise. I thought the Turquoise was way more green looking.
MB. Where was that last overhead from? Maybe that white boat has a blue vinyl tramp.

That's from 2006 Midwinter's West.

Taken from Brian Joder's spy plane:

It's the same rig that took the photo on the cover of the latest HOTLINE.

That is pretty sweet!

Do you know if it has only still camera capabilities, or video too?

It would be amazing to see 'live aireal coverage' on the beach for large events like the Nationals. Now to find some commentators and one of those NFL-style screen-writers...

Maybe my monitor needs adjusting, but the tramps on the N.A. boats look a lot more like blue then turquios. At least the torquios I remember is a lot more green.Did they change the tramp colours?

Turquoise has been around since '02 (I think). You may be thinking of the Teal (more green) which had been around for quite some time but was recently discontinued.

Colors, colors, colors!

So many choices. Even I got confused by the pictures. The aerial picture of the Ventura boats at San Felipe looks more like the darker blue as does the sail.

I took a few shots of the colors next to each other. Definitely the turquoise color was used in Ventura, is lighter and matches the sail color much better.

Go Turquoise tramp with Misty sails!...or grey...or black...so many choices!

Next question...are you getting the White, Turquoise or Silver/Grey jib

OK, shameless plug:

Brian is a very accomplished photographer - you can see his stuff at http://www.BrianJoder.com. Brian took a lot of photos at the 2005 Tiger Worlds and did shoot some video from the air there that you can download from his other site - http://www.hobiehawk.com. Brian was very gracious to let me use his photos in the HOTLINE free of charge.

Brian is the "keeper of the flame" for the Hobie Hawk RC sailplane - arguably the most advanced sailplane of its time when Hobie introduced it in the early 70's:

They come up on eBay all the time. I have two of them - one for flying and one still new in the box (32 years old). I won't say how much I paid for it, but one just went on eBay for over $700 (it cost $89 new). It's worth more unbuilt than built.
