Greetings,

Im new to the forum and to hobie sailing in generally actually. Hope to have a 16 by the time I go on leave this summer back to Michigan. I'm reading about some comptip masts and some that aren't, can someone help me out with defining that the differences are? I'm not new to sailing, I race here at the US Coast Guard Academy, I'm just not familiar with this terminology. Thanks for the help and have a great day and God bless.

A CompTip is the upper section of Hobie masts built starting in / after 1986 (Hobie started with Hobie 16's and later all models). They are fiberglass and non-conductive. They were designed to prevent electrocution by contact with a high power line. Thousands of older Hobie Cats were retrofitted with the CompTip.
