Sailboard downhaul line for Jib halyard?

I realize that you should use the correct material but with the when I made my "aussie" style jib setup, there was a brand new coil of this stuff readily available.

I'ts 5/32" (4mm) Prestretched Windsurfing Downhaul Line. At the time Dyneema was hard to find/get. At .40 cents per foot, I thought I'd try it out. It's been two and a half years now.

Am I asking too much out of it? Am I asking for disaster?

That's that 8 plait line that I think Marlow used to make, can't recall exactly. It'll work fine, but it will stretch. If you're not in race mode it will give years of fine service.

That stuff is perfect for H18 and 20 halyards FWIW.

Thanks Jeremy. Good info, it makes me feel better. No sir, I don't have a boat that would compete. My interest was freeing the stress down the mast and rotation issues. I don't know if those interests were wrong, but it looks and feels right. I also have it rigged long enough to help setting the mast when I'm alone.

Adding to my question: I tie a truckers hitch about chest high(standing on the tramp), bend around the pulley, through the loop, and make it fast at the cleat.

I'm careful when pulling the tag through the loop before going to the cleat, but will it eventually chafe through? I'm also careful about not tying my loop in the same spot. Or should I get another cheek block?
