Mooring an H16

We just picked up an H16 and I would like to be able to moor it at our cottage while we're there. Is it safe to moor it by the front cross bar? During rough weather we would beach it, since we've had bad incidents in the past with the mast coming down on our old y-flyer, but I'd like to be able to moor it overnight on the weekends.

Very hard on the standing rigging and the boat will take on water over a short time. I believe Hobie Recommends no mooring.

Good to know - what do people use for easy beaching? Inflatable rollers? We have a gravel beach, so I wouldn't want to drag it up/down a whole lot.

I'm too cheap for the cat wheels. I've made ladders out of 2x4 and use 1.5" ABS pipe for rungs every 2 feet. I slide it on. I have a few sections and I move them in front of the boat as I reach the end. I'm only moving it 15 to 20 feet from the water though. It's a lake, but still tidal waters, however the tide is only about a foot.

I'm on tidal so I'm building a floating dock to pull her up on.

Well with the winter over I am back at my favorite sailing site!!!

When you putting in Burly??

At the camp we have two ladders made of 2x4's with old rubber roller pins every two feet so the boat can be easily pulled up by even children. Just place them in front and drag it up. No duct tape needed!!!

definitely don't moore, i used to during the weekends and eventually the shrouds failed and the whole mast fell. bad idea.

I agree, you take on water and eventually your shrouds will fail, one big storm and it can sink your entire Cat! if your handy you can build your own Beach Rollers for about $100 you can buy all the supplies you need at various places (princess auto) up here in canada, they even carry the larger beach tires.. but sold as Turf tires... same size same profile..
