Please identify broken part

My early fathers day gift is a 85 hobie cat 16. I have downloaded the manual but looks like a copy of a copy copy thus the pics offers limited use. I have strung the main sail to the best of my ability however I have a broke piece but I have no idea what it is

If you experts see a problem with the rigging feel free instruct me proper rigging

That is a swivel pad #1162

Route the tail end of your main sheet back into the swivel jaws... eye... through the car... dead eye (mid beam on the back) and tie a stopper knot.

The cleat on the mainsheet is angled far too high. There's small screws on the sides that you can remove and adjust it lower.

The traveler cleat is bent down. Gently bend the mounting plate up slightly so you can cleat the traveler line.

And either clean or replace that nasty tramp lacing.

The swivel cleat base is broken at the rivet. I had the same thing happen when I tried to bend up the swivel. I made an emergency repair by drilling two holes in the plate through the crossbar and installing two sheet metal screws. It worked so well that I haven't replaced it. That part takes quite a lot of stress. Don't try bending the plate without removing it from the boat.

Your righting line apears to be on backwards. it should run around the front pylons and back to the rudder pins. I believe there is a picture in the current catalogue. Also a litttle bar keepers friend on the tramp will have it looking like new again. congrats on the new boat.

I'm ordering the broken part today but wondering. There seems to be a lot of aftermarket parts for the hobies and I'm wondering if maybe this part is available in something other than pastic or what ever it is. That's not to say I would want to pay 100$ for it either I'm just wondering
Thanks for the sugestions on the rigging and cleaning agents. I asked my wife to pick up bars little helper. She said that stuff is great on Anything.


This made me laughe because I was telling wife I need new rope and she said these are fine. So now I have shown her what you said and now I get new ropes all the way around. YIPPY! whAts the best kind of rope to buy? Is there a marine grade or one composition of rope that's better than the other? I found a rope kit for my hobie but it's likeb170$. Yikes. Speaking of rope why was it like 50$ more if you have to comp tip mast like I do?
