I am new to this forum (Just regie'd) I am new to Hobie sailing.
However I have been sailing and sailmaking all my life.
I would like info on building sails and am asking where to go to find this info?
Questions I have regard (very finite, diffinitive) class rules:
The class rules I have seem a little vague...
rule 3.3
Quote:
"DACRON sails built from IHCA approved pat-
terns and manufactured by the HOBIE CAT CO.
are class legal."
IHCA approved patterns?
Are these simply profile dimensions or are the pie(shaping seams) dimensions also controlled by class rules?
If so, where can patterns be acquired?
All the talk (and my own personal experience) about light air sailing and having the jib batten ends hang up on the halyards at ever tack.
I would like to build a new suit with a jib that has battens tensioned with leather covered ladder buckles.
Rule 3.2 seems to cover it, but I would like it confirmed:
Quote:
Jib batten pockets or velcro type systems may
be installed in the Hobie 16 jib leech to eliminate
the need for batten ties.
And a few other random yet specific questions.
Bottom line, I want to know specifically what materials are legal and which are not? Are the shaping seam dimensions regulated. What is required of a sail maker to build class legal sails? Where do I get specifics on dimensions etc.
