I picked up a 73' H16 to introduce my teenage kids to sailing this summer. My prior sailing experience was with a couple of Ligntnings, so this is a new experience to me. We have been sailing on lake Folsom (near Sacramento) and when the wind comes up it is quite a delight. However, I am concerned about groaning creaking noise that seems to come from the starbord junction of the front corner casting and the pylon. There may be a little play in that joint. The noise is precipitated by going sideways though a wake causing roll of the boat. Does this type of noise indicate a major problem?

thanks for any suggestions,
Art Huntley

The noise is normal for a 16. The corner castings move on the pylons, creating the noise.

The only real way to get rid of it is to glue the boat together. Search the forums and you should find lots of stuff on stiffening up a 16.

Or you could shim the joint if epoxying is to final for your taste.
