Hello all:
After 2 months of hard work (delamination, corrosion, painting...) I finally managed to get my "new" 1983 HC16 to the water with strong wind and higher waves than I would have liked for the first day...I just could not wait anymore.
Everything worked fine but while sailing I could feel, and even see, there was quite a big amount of flexion between the hulls so when I came back home I started surfing the forums and found out this is a very common problem with different possible solutions.
I´m sure I need to tighten my tramp but still what worries me is that there´s a lot of wear in the front pylons(about 3 mm - 0,08") and the holes where the bolts go through are egg shaped. When I was getting the boat ready I filled the worn area with a 2-component epoxi paste called Quick Steel (I do not know if this stuff is available in the States) but after 2 hours sailing its almost been completely worn off.
I do not want to glue my frame together so shimming sounds like the only option but in 3 mm you can stick quite a few beer can layers.
I was thinking about welding some new aluminium in the worn areas and then filing it back to the original shape, but I´m afraid about heat damaging the hull structure.
Also I read somewhere about greasing pylon and casting prior to epoxy which would give a similar result as glueing (maybe not so strong) and make the operation "non-permanent".
What would you reccomend??
