How to attach a side stay to a new Hobie hull?

So I had to replace one of the hulls on my hobie this offseason do to the dreaded soft spot issues. I got a second hull for cheap off craigslist and repainted etc. I was getting ready to take the boat out when I noticed that there was no place to attach the turnbuckle for the side stay. Apparently there was a big patch done on the deck and when they did that, they took all the hardware associated with the anchor point under the lip of the boat, off. I was thinking I'd just take the hardware off of my old hull and put it on the new one. Unfortunately, when the former owner did the previous patch, he filled the lip/gunwale with epoxy. I don't think it's completely sealed because i can see that it's almost hollow at the beginning of the patch before going solid in the middle looking at it from the stern point of view. I'm really struggling to find away to reattach the anchor point effectively. Any suggestions would be appreciated. In terms of the actual hardware required I have just a bar (similar to the dolphin striker in looks) that the shroud pin just twists into. I also have an round shaped bracket that that I lifted off of another hobie, It fits right under the gunwhale and is anchored down by square nut and the shroud pin.

I apologize in advance for the poor description, it'll probably be a miracle if you can actually follow. I was really having some trouble actually describing my problem (plus I'm typing this on phone, little bit of a lethal combo). So anyway, any suggestions or tips would be extremely helpful.

I can follow your question, but I am concerned that the new hull you bought has been repaired where the side stay attached. If that is the case, what damage was there and how strong were the repairs made. This seems like a very high stress, important part of the hull. If you drill it out and get it to work, how long would it last? I wouldn't ever have confidence in it.

Like you mentioned, originally, it is just a rod with a threaded hole in it sitting under that lip. In fact, I have often wondered how this can be strong enough, but rest assured that thousands of boats over a 40+ year history have proven it generally works ok.

I would be very cautious with the new hull, maybe even look for another.
